Nice to see banners for this everywhere around town, which is a massive improvement on last years marketing already!

I'm sure if you into the Tourist Info centre they'll have more details in there.

I think we should have a 'battle of the fireworks' with Hunstanton on the same night - some people said last year's tree display could be seen for miles around (even from the Wolds) so maybe we could have a big 'Hello Hunstanton' display and get them to reciprocate and have boat trips between the two.

Ok, maybe a little adventurous but it'd be fun Wink

The Butlins brochure I accidently recieved has an advert for the SO 2010 event!

Which is great to see because tts their standard national brochure, advertising all 3 resorts, so the SO event is getting national advertisment!

I've been looking at the acts appearing in this years festival this morning on there website and it looks very impressive, this festival looks to be even better than last yeas SO festival and I wish it well.

What concerns me is the lack of publicity generated, I hope I'm wrong but from Speaking to friends and family in Notts/Derby area none have heard anything abolut the forthcoming event yet. Surely people are already booking there summer breaks as we speak and surely we want to draw people to the resort and not just provide the entertainment for those already holidaying here at the time. One of the main critiscums of last years festival was the lack of Nationwide publicity, surely we are not going to make the same mistake again

I have the same concerns as Skeggy47, seams to be a lack of urgency!

My wife and youngest son are interested in the painting event and so I emailed the contact email address about it (a Emma Hamilton on a @e-lindsey.co.uk address) on May 27th and received an automated out of office reply (would be back on the 28th) so she definitely got it.

No reply in over 2 weeks from people wanting to volunteer!

After a week I took another look at the SO website and found a different email address for volunteering, sent the same email to sofestival@e-lindsey.co.uk on 3rd of June mentioning my first email to Emma Hamilton, one week on no reply.

Now I see a third email address for volunteering painting@magneticevents.org.

I'm not sending a third blinking email.

If this is the level of organisation for something as simple and straightforward as responding to emails in a timely fashion we are in serious trouble!

What if I were a holiday maker needing this information to decide whether to book a holiday in Skegness or not, I would have given up at one email.

Not impressed.

This is the first email I sent:

----------------------------------------------
My wife and 13 year old son are interested in the Traffic Art described at http://www.sofestival.org/pages/media-room/trafficart.html could you provide more information about participating.

I don't suppose you know anything about the unsigned bands event? Been trying to find information beyond it's a battle of the bands type event like what sort of music will be played, maybe a lineup of who will be playing so we can check them out online (some are bound to be on YouTube etc...).

Do you have a date for the full program release?

Thanks

BTW we live in Skegness.

David Law

---------------------------------------------

Not exactly difficult to respond to even if it was just a courteous we'll be sending out info later to the date and we'll be in contact...

David

Looks like the webmaster at the SO website is reading this thread since they took my advice on the linking things together better at http://www.sofestival.org/pages/programme.html

Much better from a usability perspective.

The title of that page would ideally be "SO Festival Programme" or similar for SEO reasons. Having just Programme as the title is not going to help getting that page ranked in Google etc... for relevant search results. The title element is THE most important part of the page SEO wise.

David

I did a quick google search on the SO Festival and came up with 16 different websites with information about it.

I attended a volunteers meeting for the SO Festival Tonight and was very impressed with the preparations for the event, There is going to be much more happening this year than during both the SO and SEAS of 2009 and they were very impressive.

The art work on the pavement will start some days before the festival and run for 10 days, the pavement between the Clock tower and the Lifeboat station will have a design drawn on it then over the 10 days members of the public will be encouraged to paint it in with very bright colours. On the day of the commencement of the festival July 23rd a group of dances painted to blend into the murial will perform.

The Parade along Soth parade looks fantastic with giant sea creatures travelling down the parade from 9.45 onwards and lots lots more happening over the 4 days of the festival.

It was anounced also that Skegness were to present East Midlands as a cultural centre during the 2012 Olympic Games which means the the festivals will continue for at least another 4 years.

I'm really exited about the coming Festival ande am looking forward to being a part of it in some capacity.

IF you havent already planned to be in Skegness during July 22nd-25th do so now, because you would hate to miss it.

The progamme of events is on the SO website now www.sofestival.org

Sounds great S47! Really cannot wait for this!

Quick question though, has anything been announced/planned for the switch on of the lights?
